Hawaii is a dream land that holds special meaning and memories for this client. So, what better way to update their living room than to highlight a silk screen they had made into a dramatic wall hanging handmade in Hawaii on one of their many (31 and counting) trips to the Island. Through every step, it was my goal to create a sanctuary that reminded them of their sacred time on the Island. From refreshing paint colors to adding one-of-a-kind canvas prints, live plants and tribal patterned rugs, this living room got a tropical makeover from every angle. In the Kona Coast living room, creating that tropical feeling while reminding them of their incredible journey thus far was essential. The design also highlighted their family, marriage and love of Hawaii each and every day made every selection and addition very special, indeed. From the BEFORE images, we re-worked the space and took some furniture out of the space. Originally, both seating areas were on the same wall on the opposite wall upon entering the room. To add visual interest and break up the room and seating areas, the fireplace switched walls and with the addition of a new sectional placed where the original fireplace once sat, we made a room look twice as big with variety and two rugs to break up the two spaces. The design board features all of the selections we added to this space to give it the beach-inspired vibe desired.
From furniture and accessories, this room updated lighting, trim, baseboards, paint and arrangement. With some tough love on the dated trim around the large wall of windows (which took 5 coats of Killz and Paint) along with layered drapery with added depth and texture, the wall overlooking their back patio is a beautiful extension of the inside. New streamlined coffee and side tables along with silver accent lamps gave a much needed space a more finished look. Now, there is more than enough visually to enjoy from every angle of this light, bright and airy living room. Enjoy the transformation!
